Technical Proposals

Proposals

You may or may not fully understand what a proposal actually is. If that is the case then that is ok. A lot of people do not. Just to clarify I am not talking about when I man asks a woman to marry him either. HA

For the purposes of this post, I will discuss the Technical Proposal. So now you may ask, what is a Technical Proposal exactly. The proposal is the standard technical genre for offering solutions to problems, suggesting new products, or outlining new projects. The idea is that the proposal will detail something that the company is hoping to do for a customer in return for money or some other form of compensation. Normally a customer will issue what is called an RFP or Request for Proposal. It is done this way so that a company who is writing a proposal will know what to propose.

Proposal Organization

The superstructure provides a framework for writers to organize their proposal. Writers can use it as a guideline, but note that it is not mandatory for writers to include every single element listed below in their proposal. Sections can be combined or even briefly stated in other sections.

The basic sections of a proposal are:

  • INTRODUCTION
  • PROBLEM
  • OBJECTIVES
  • SOLUTION
  • METHOD
  • RESOURCES
  • SCHEDULE
  • QUALIFICATIONS
  • MANAGEMENT
  • COSTS
It is also worth noting that most proposals come in a written form and as such when they are presented they can be accompanied by a visual presentation. This form of presentation will include graphics such as charts and graphs that will help better convey what you are proposing.
